View in browser     ©istock Shocking study says chemicals found in shampoo, makeup may kill 100k Americans prematurely each year By Joseph Guzman   Exposure to a synthetic group of chemicals called phthalates may contribute to about 100,000 premature deaths each year among older Americans, according to a new study. The study found those with higher levels of phthalates were more likely to die prematurely from any cause, especially from heart problems. Phthalates are used to make plastics more flexible and are found in hundreds of products. Read the full story here     ©Getty Images Scientists say mysterious radio waves are coming from the center of the Milky Way By Joseph Guzman   An international team of astronomers has detected “unusual signals” coming from the heart of the Milky Way galaxy and suspect a “new class of stellar object” could be the source. A new study published this week in the Astrophysical Journal details the discovery of radio waves that appear to be unlike anything the experts have studied before.  Read the full story here     Feature of the Week: © istock Researchers try using 'bubbles' to treat inflammation By Chia-Yi Hou   A novel experiment in mice suggests potential for using existing structures formed by cell membranes to treat inflammation. Researchers used extracellular vesicles equipped with specific proteins on the surface to reduce three types of inflammation. Experts hope that this technique could also be used to deliver drugs in a specific and targeted way.
