Intraparty fighting is threatening to stall the Democratic Party's efforts to rebuild seven months after President Trump's sweeping general election victory.
The party has also been roiled by revelations and questions about the last months of former President Biden's administration and whether he was in the midst of a cognitive decline. |

The handcuffing of Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) raises the stakes for future clashes between Democrats and the administration as acts of protest have been met with swift law enforcement action.
Democrats have vowed to continue their pressure campaign on the administration over its immigration policies, but the incident involving Padilla and President Trump's forceful response to Democratic protestors raise questions over how such confrontations will intensify. |

The nation's capital on Saturday was overtaken by the sight of tanks rolling down the street and Army helicopters buzzing in the sky for a military parade to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The much-talked about event, which also fell on President Trump's 79th birthday, featured military vehicles and members of the Army marching down Constitution Avenue for a parade that had become a source of controversy in recent weeks. The event drew thousands of spectators despite the threat of rain. |

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said that President Trump's military parade in Washington, D.C., commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, is comprised of the "best of us" and that it should be celebrated regardless of where one might stand on the political spectrum. "This parade is comprised of our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers—the very best of us," Fetterman wrote in a Saturday post on social media platform X. "Regardless of your politics, it's appropriate to celebrate the 250 years of sacrifice, dedication and service." |

Comedian Bill Maher on Friday lauded President Trump's military parade for its patriotic spirit but criticized the public display of weaponry. "Trump said, we're going to celebrate our country for a change. Like so many things with him, like he very often has an idea which in the ether is not a bad idea," Maher said during a Friday episode of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" highlighted by Mediaite. |

KTLA — A day of peaceful protests in downtown Los Angeles took a turn late Saturday afternoon when law enforcement began ordering the thousands of demonstrators to disperse from the area surrounding the L.A. Federal Building complex. Officers deployed flashbangs and tear gas, and KTLA's Sky5 chopper captured the moment officers on foot and horseback moved into the large crowd. The L.A. Police Department said that some protesters were "becoming increasingly unruly" and were throwing rocks, bricks, bottles and fireworks — despite the overall peaceful tenor of the day's events. |

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Saturday confirmed state Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband were killed in a fatal shooting being investigated as "politically motivated." "My good friend and colleague, Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were shot and killed early this morning in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination," Walz said during a press conference. |

OPINION | There's a photo pinging around the blogosphere of a pallet of bricks, supposedly placed near Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities for use by "Democratic militants" during the recent unrest in Los Angeles. The accompanying post says that the bricks were paid for by organizations linked to Democratic financier George Soros, a frequent whipping boy of the American right. "It's a Civil War!!" the post exclaims. |
OPINION | Across the nation today, thousands of protests are being organized by left-wing groups, unions, and other organizations, with chants of "No Kings, No Kings, No Kings." The mantra is a calculated campaign to cement the notion that Donald Trump has assumed dictatorial powers. It is a curious campaign, since every indication is that our constitutional system is operating precisely as designed. |

Israel unleashed airstrikes across Iran for a third day on Sunday and threatened even greater force as some Iranian missiles evaded Israeli air defenses to strike buildings in the heart of the country. Planned talks on Iran's nuclear program, which could provide an off-ramp, were canceled. |
Americans turned out en masse in communities across the country Saturday, raucously pushing back on what they see as President Donald Trump's widening authoritarianism, attacks on immigrants and deep cuts to scores of federal programs. |
