A year and a half ago, Evgenia Peretz began reporting into bubbling allegations of sexual misconduct at Miss Hall's School—an elite all-girls boarding school in the Berkshires, founded in 1898. Peretz's eventual story, "Girls, Interrupted," was a horrifying glimpse into one male teacher's purported predation of his students that went back decades, and the school's apparent silence in the face of whispers and allegations. Two former students, Melissa Fares and Hilary Simon, bravely, heartbreakingly recounted their experiences with Matt Rutledge to Vanity Fair. Today, Peretz offers an update on their story, and their reactions to the school's independent report on the allegations. If you haven't read the original story, make time for it, and the update too. |
For decades Matt Rutledge allegedly groomed and sexually attacked young teenage girls who were his students. Aleta Law, hired by the school last year, has now released its 60-page independent report, which details Rutledge's sexual misconduct and boundary violations across three decades. The report concludes, in part, "that the school's leadership failed to adequately investigate and respond to the reported information." |

Nearly a decade after the Emmy-winning original series, Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman navigate a bleaker world in season two: "Forty years ago, people would write movies where the punchline was, 'and the corruption goes all the way to the top!' Today, that's the starting point." |
The most influential vice president in US history will always be remembered for his crucial role in the Iraq war debacle—and to some historians, for being dull. |
Following a publicized cast shake-up, one featured player has emerged amidst the chaos, positioning themselves as a potential anchor for a new era of SNL. | |
