The ad, shared first with The Hill, will launch Jan. 1 in the districts of key swing-district Republicans: David Schweikert (Ariz.), Juan Ciscomani (Ariz.), David Valadao (Calif.), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa), Tom Barrett (Mich), Mike Lawler (N.Y.), Rob Bresnahan (Pa.), Scott Perry (Pa.), Derrick Van Orden (Wis.), and Ryan Mackenzie (Pa.).
The campaign is part of the $10 million budget on health care accountability the group has spent this year.
"Are your health insurance premiums going up? Is it a happy new year? Republicans in Congress just took away tax credits for your health care costs as of January 1 — raising premiums 114 percent," a voiceover in the ad says. "Tell them what you think."
The Dec. 31 deadline to extend expiring ObamaCare enhanced subsidies is set to expire, meaning out-of-pocket health insurance costs for an estimated 22 million people who have Affordable Care Act plans will spike.
A small but animated group of House GOP centrists implored party leaders for months to extend the tax credits or face major political backlash from voters.
But they ran into a wall of opposition from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and a larger group of conference conservatives, who openly fought to have the subsidies end.
A House leadership bill with other health care provisions did little to stem anger among moderates, who staged a revolt against Johnson. Four Republicans joined a Democratic discharge petition that would force a floor vote to extend the subsidies for three years. It will likely pass, but go nowhere in the Senate.
While lawmakers may get an earful from constituents back home, it's not clear if that will be enough to overcome the GOP's 15-year opposition to the health law.
"The Republican war on health care is bad policy, bad politics, and just plain wrong. Voters will continue to hammer the GOP on the airwaves and at the ballot box until Trump and Republicans give back the tax credits they stole from working families," Protect Our Care Chairman Leslie Dach said in a statement.
