Domestic flights are resuming across the country after a Federal Aviation Administration system outage grounded thousands of aircrafts. The FAA first issued an advisory just past 4 a.m. Wednesday that a technical issue impacted its Notice to Air Missions system (NOTAM), and it later announced that it had ordered all airlines to pause domestic departures for more than an hour to ensure flight safety. Thousands of passengers were delayed and hundreds of flights were flat-out canceled, but airlines began gradually restoring normal operations by mid-afternoon Wednesday. The FAA is still working to figure out what went wrong, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg confirming the federal government hasn't ruled out nefarious activity. "We're not prepared to rule that out," Buttigieg said in an interview on MSNBC. "There hasn't been any indication of that." It was the second major air travel disruption in a matter of weeks — the first coming amid the holidays when Southwest suffered system complications. Read more here. |
