By Marc Sternfield Researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have released their findings from a multiyear study of what they call "underappreciated sources" of urban air pollution. They focused on three cities: Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Boulder, Colorado, where they measured human-caused volatile organic compounds (VOCs) related to cooking. Overall, researchers concluded that air pollution from cooking is vastly underestimated and could account for nearly a quarter of VOCs in urban areas. |

By Alejandra O'Connell-Domenech Data show that single women in the United States are more likely to own homes than their male counterparts. A recent LendingTree study found that about 13 percent of single women own homes, compared to 10 percent of single men. Some experts say women's greater longevity and caregiving responsibilities may be contributing to that difference. |

"The mother was sitting on the … lawn with her one baby and I asked her if she was all right and she said, 'My baby is still in the house,' and I was thinking to myself, 'Oh my God, I have to save the baby.'" Firefighters are convinced that if Stickovich had not acted quickly as he did, the child would have perished in the smoke and flames. |

By Andrew Dorn The illegal wildlife trade is now the fourth largest funding source for criminal organizations, generating about $23 billion each year. In November, the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL, warned that the growing issue has pushed many species "to the brink of extinction." From 2018 to 2021, wildlife trafficking surged more than 150%, according to a Moody's Analytics report, which cited government data. |
