The U.S. economy added a surprising 2.5 million jobs in May as businesses begin to reopen from coronavirus-related closures, according to data released by the Labor Department. https://bit.ly/3h3FrzF

 

The unemployment rate: The unemployment rate dropped to 13.3 percent. 

 

The context on how big of a deal this is: “The May jobs report showed one of the largest one-month spike in hiring in U.S. history after the country lost 20.7 million jobs in April, sending the unemployment rate to 14.7 percent, according to the Labor Department.”
