North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), rumored to be on former President Trump's VP shortlist, declined to say whether he's talked to Trump about serving as his running mate.
"That would be between the president and I," Burgum said on NBC News's "Meet the Press" when asked "yes or no" whether he's had any conversations with Trump about being his pick for vice president.
Burgum stressed there were many candidates worthy of the position when first asked about potential talks on the subject. |

Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley said it "doesn't matter" which Democratic candidate former President Trump faces in the 2024 general elections, saying any Democrat would embrace the same policies of this administration. In an interview Sunday on "The Hill Sunday with Chris Stirewalt," Whatley also cast doubt on the likelihood that Democrats would replace President Biden as their presumptive 2024 nominee, noting Biden would need to make the choice himself, which he seems unlikely to do.

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) said on Sunday that President Biden should "absolutely not" drop out of the presidential race, amid concerns following his shaky debate performance on Thursday.
"Absolutely not," Warnock said on NBC's "Meet the Press," when asked whether Biden should drop out.
Warnock said that, as a pastor, "I can tell you that there have been more than a few Sundays when I wish I had preached a better sermon." |

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) suggested that there should be more live fact-checking during the next presidential debate after CNN was criticized for the lack of it last week.
Clyburn said he doesn't know whether there should be a second debate after President Biden's poor debate showing on Thursday night on CNN's "State of the Union." While speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, who moderated last week's debate, he suggested that there was not enough live fact-checking during the debate. |

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) praised CNN's Dana Bash for allowing former President Trump to talk during the debate last week while answering a question about whether Trump will accept the election results.
Graham said he was comfortable with Trump saying he would accept the results only if it was a "fair and legal and good election" during the CNN presidential debate last week. In his response on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, Graham reacted to Trump's remarks and praised Bash for the handling of the debate.
"You know, y'all did a good job. You let him talk. You're not fact checkers; you let him talk," he told Bash. |

Michael Whatley, chair of the Republican National Committee, said that his party will roll out an "overwhelmingly positive" vision for America at the convention in a couple of weeks.
"We're going to have a fantastic convention. We're very, very excited about it. We're going to have 50,000 delegates, guests and members of the media that are going to be in Milwaukee, and they're going to see us roll out a vision for America that is going to be overwhelmingly positive," Whatley said in an interview on NewsNation's "The Hill Sunday," when Chris Stirewalt asked what media should expect from the convention. |

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) acknowledged that President Biden had a rocky debate performance, saying that he had "preparation overload."
Biden's lackluster debate performance Thursday sparked concerns among Democrats about his ability to serve a second term in the White House. However, Clyburn shot down any suggestions that Biden should step down from the ticket, urging people to look at his administration's record and not judge based on one night. |
