News Alert

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House's powerful oversight committee, says he will not seek re-election to Congress.

The Utah Republican, who made the announcement Wednesday on his Facebook page, thanked supporters and said he will "not be a candidate for any office in 2018."

In Congress, Chaffetz was known as a hard-charging chairman, taking on investigations into Planned Parenthood and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

Chaffetz said that he has no "ulterior motives" for his decision, but instead said he is ready to return to the private sector.
