We Told Everyone About James Toback. Why Didn’t They Listen?
Another day in Hollywood, another slew of sexual-misconduct allegations. This time around, it’s Tom Sizemore and ex-One Tree Hill show-runner Mark Schwahn—but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped talking about the first wave of alleged abusers, either. Today, HWD is leading with an unnerving must-read by Bonnie Bertram and Julie V. Iovine, a pair of journalists who pseudonymously drew attention to the alleged misdeeds of James Toback nearly 30 years ago in the pages of Spy magazine—only to watch in frustration as their article “became a footnote to Toback’s history, cited as a testament to his sexual prowess.”
Feeling burned out by this endless chasm of depravity? Perhaps we have what ails you. Feel free to vent about the bad aspects of Hollywood (and exalt the good!) in our new, all-female Facebook group Reel Women, or dive into some of today’s best HWD stories—including an interview with an infamous Canadian murderess (or at least the woman who plays her on TV), via Laura Bradley; an exclusive look at the next season of Netflix’s lush period drama The Crown, courtesy of Julie Miller; or Yohana Desta’s look at how Rotten Tomatoes may be helping Warner Bros. stanch the flood of bad press that’s likely to come once critics begin expressing how they really feel about the upcoming Justice League.
