Via The Hill’s Morgan Chalfant, Leaving for a trip to the Texas border this morning to tour the border wall, President Trump stopped to speak with reporters, slamming House Democrats’ efforts to impeach him a second time. https://bit.ly/3id9RjJ

HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT TRUMP SAID:

What Trump thinks of the impeachment efforts: Trump called it “ridiculous” and the cause of “tremendous anger.” He also another impeachment would be a “continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics.”

Trump was asked, "What is your role in what happened at the Capitol? What is your personal responsibility?": “If you read my speech …  People thought that what I said what totally appropriate.” He continued about his rally before the Capitol siege: "They've analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence, and everybody to the T thought it was totally appropriate.” https://bit.ly/3nF8Y4B

On tech companies that banned or restricted the president: “I think that big tech is doing a horrible thing for our country … and I believe it’s going to be a catastrophic mistake for them,” Trump said, calling the companies “divisive.”

ON CAPITOL HILL

This is pretty alarming — Capitol Police warns Democrats about three more potential plots to overthrow the government:

Via The Huffington Post’s Matt Fuller, “Capitol Police briefed Democrats on Monday night about three more potentially gruesome demonstrations planned in the coming days, with one plot to encircle the U.S. Capitol and assassinate Democrats and some Republicans.” https://bit.ly/3i4aQmn

The first plot: “The first is a demonstration billed as the ‘largest armed protest ever to take place on American soil.’”

The second plot: “Another is a protest in honor of Ashli Babbitt, the woman killed while trying to climb into the Speaker’s Lobby during Wednesday’s pro-Trump siege of the Capitol.”

The third plot: “And another demonstration, which three members said was by far the most concerning plot, would involve insurrectionists forming a perimeter around the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court, and then blocking Democrats from entering the Capitol ― perhaps even killing them ― so that Republicans could take control of the government.”

Everything we know about the possible violencehttps://bit.ly/3i4aQmn

Senators will be briefed today:

Via The Hill’s Jordain Carney, incoming Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told senators that they will be briefed today on the security surrounding President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20. https://bit.ly/38Aye7K

Who will brief senators: “The Secret Service, the Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will brief senators.”

LATEST WITH IMPEACHMENT

Don’t mess with Mama Nancy:

Via Politico’s Heather Caygle and Sarah Ferris, “When [Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)] was reunited with her staff hours after the deadly siege at the Capitol, the speaker didn’t even have to ask — she could see the terror reflected in their eyes.” https://politi.co/2Xzt060

“The speaker views the invasion of the Capitol as more than just an attempt to overturn the results of the presidential election by a pro-Trump mob. For Pelosi, it was also an attack on the people she calls her family — the lawmakers, support staffers and aides who are the lifeblood of the Capitol — and the building that she considers sacred and has called a second home since birth, when her father was a congressman.”

Inside Pelosi's push to impeach Trump: https://politi.co/2Xzt060

TIDBIT — IMPEACHMENT ARTICLES WERE DRAFTED FROM THE SAFE ROOM:

Sarah Ferris tweeted, “Unlike in 2019, it's lightning fast. Omar drafted her article of impeachment *while* in the safe room Wednesday with Pelosi, Hoyer, McConnell, etc. Across the Capitol, Cicilline and Lieu of California wrote their article as they were barricaded inside an office together.” https://bit.ly/2K8raWH

HERE’S A TIMELINE OF THE IMPEACHMENT SCHEDULE:

THIS FOOTAGE IS CHILLING — NANCY PELOSI GAVE ’60 MINUTES’ A TOUR OF HER RANSACKED OFFICE:

HOW IMPEACHMENT IS “THROWING A CURVEBALL INTO BIDEN’S PLAN TO ‘HIT THE GROUND RUNNING”:

Via The Hill’s Jordain Carney, “[President-elect Biden], speaking to reporters, said his aides were in talks with the Senate parliamentarian staff about whether it would be possible to divide the Senate’s day between confirmation votes for nominees and taking up legislation and holding an impeachment trial.” https://bit.ly/39ttWOG

Fingers are pointed at Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz:

Via The Hill’s Alexander Bolton, “Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) are facing a possible vote on a censure resolution in the Senate as Democrats and some Republicans blame them for the mob that attacked the Capitol last week.” What colleagues are saying about Hawley and Cruzhttps://bit.ly/35xkb11

IN THE TRUMP WHITE HOUSE

Oh to be a fly on that wall:

Via CNN’s Kevin Liptak and Kaitlan Collins, President Trump and Vice President Pence met in the Oval Office yesterday, speaking for the first time since the siege on the U.S. Capitol. https://cnn.it/39nkJYl

How the meeting went: Well, according to sources

What went down: "They reiterated that those who broke the law and stormed the Capitol last week do not represent the America First movement backed by 75 million Americans, and pledged to continue the work on behalf of the country for the remainder of their term.”

Tidbit — how Trump spent last weekend: “Trump had spent the weekend largely in isolation, as aides either distanced themselves from him or limited their time in his presence. Trump canceled a planned trip to Camp David, where his closest aides were hoping he would get into a good mindset ahead of his final stretch in office. Instead, he spent the weekend stewing to his deputy chief of staff, Dan Scavino, and entered his final full week angrier than ever.”

LATEST WITH THE CORONAVIRUS

New year. New plan. New you.:

The Trump administration has decided to release all coronavirus vaccine doses, instead of reserving second doses. https://bit.ly/35wKwfm

Why: To hopefully speed up the pace of COVID-19 vaccine doses

Why the Trump administration was holding back half of all available doses: “The Trump administration has been holding back half of the available doses to ensure there is enough supply for everyone who is getting a first dose to later get a second dose as well.”

Where does President-elect Biden stand on the issue?: This new plan is in line with the incoming Biden administration’s plan.

THE NUMBERS:

IN LIGHTER NEWS:

A man may lose about $220 million in Bitcoin because he lost the password:

Via The New York Times’s Nathaniel Popper, “Stefan Thomas, a German-born programmer living in San Francisco, has two guesses left to figure out a password that is worth, as of this week, about $220 million.” https://nyti.ms/3bKckBd

What happened — omg: “The password will let him unlock a small hard drive, known as an IronKey, which contains the private keys to a digital wallet that holds 7,002 Bitcoin … The problem is that Mr. Thomas years ago lost the paper where he wrote down the password for his IronKey, which gives users 10 guesses before it seizes up and encrypts its contents forever. He has since tried eight of his most commonly used password formulations — to no avail.” The full storyhttps://nyti.ms/3bKckBd
