The House will be back at 10 p.m. ET, as Republicans once again try to muster the votes to get Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) into the Speaker's seat. It will be the 14th vote since Tuesday. McCarthy gained the votes of 14 Republicans who had been casting ballots for other candidates and one who had been voting "present." With six holdouts, he still needs more support when the chamber returns for its next vote. If lawmakers can't reach an agreement, they could be forced into working through the weekend. The prolonged Speaker's vote has left House government at a temporary standstill, while Republicans from both factions praised the exercise as productive. Read more here. More from The Hill: |
