The chairman of the D.C. Council wants to stop the U.S. Senate from acting on the district's proposed criminal code overhaul, but it's unclear whether he has that authority and the Senate is still aiming for a vote on the Republican-backed disapproval resolution. "Our position is the bill is not before Congress any longer," Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) told reporters Monday.
But Sen. Bill Hagerty, a Tennessee Republican who sponsored the disapproval resolution, said in a statement that Mendelson's move amounts to a "desperate, made-up maneuver."
Meanwhile, some Democrats have expressed frustration over President Biden's position in support of the override. |

Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in the Inflation Reduction Act requiring the sales, they are set for March 28. |
