The White House is assuring people that the recent string of unidentified objects that have been taken down by the military have nothing to do with E.T. "There is no indication of aliens or extra-terrestrial activity with these recent takedowns," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday. "I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these crafts," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby similarly sought to assure the public, after the military took down four flying objects within eight days. But questions remain over the nature and origin of the objects taken down over the weekend, roughly a week after a suspected Chinese spy balloon was shot down after it floated across the continental U.S. U.S. officials have said they still haven't determined where the other three objects came from that were taken down over the U.S. and Canada over the weekend. The full Senate is set to get a classified hearing with the latest information on Tuesday. President Biden has designated a new interagency federal team to investigate the objects. Kirby said the team will include "every element of the government" and is part of an effort to "redouble their efforts to understand and mitigate these events." |

☀️ McCarthy to lead delegation to southern border
|
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will lead a congressional delegation to the southern border this week, marking his first visit since winning the gavel last month. Freshman Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani (Ariz.), Jen Kiggans (Va.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (Ore.) and Derrick Van Orden (Wis.) will join McCarthy on the trip, which is taking place while the chamber is away from D.C. for a district work period. McCarthy made securing the border a key part of his agenda during the midterm elections that saw the GOP win a slight majority and reclaim control of the House. McCarthy traveled to El Paso, Texas, in November and called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Other House Republicans are pushing for Mayorkas's impeachment. The Homeland Security Department has hired a law firm to help respond to a potential impeachment. |
