Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R) decision to sign a controversial six-week abortion ban into law has put him in the middle of rough political terrain that Democrats and some Republicans say could undermine his White House ambitions in 2024. DeSantis signed off on the measure Thursday hours after it won final approval from his state's Republican-dominated House. In doing so, DeSantis further endeared himself to anti-abortion activists and hardline conservatives, who are certain to play a pivotal role in determining the GOP's 2024 presidential nominee. |

As the question of mifepristone's availability in the U.S. is fought out in federal courts, states and health care providers are looking to the only other abortion pill approved for use here and the impacts that relying on it would have on the reproductive landscape. In most cases of medical abortions, a drug called misoprostol is taken soon after mifepristone is administered. This two-drug regimen has become the standard throughout the U.S., and studies have found it to be highly safe and effective. |

The Supreme Court briefly paused a ruling from a federal court that would severely restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone. The short order from Justice Samuel Alito on the court's emergency "shadow docket" will keep the status quo in place until at least midnight Wednesday while the administration's emergency request for a stay is considered by the full court. |

A group of more than 250 Democratic lawmakers filed an amicus brief on Friday to request the Supreme Court to issue a full stop to "dangerous" restrictions on access to abortion pills. All Senate Democrats — except for Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) — and 203 out of 213 House Democrats signed their names to support the Biden administration's appeal for the Supreme Court to uphold the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of mifepristone, one of two approved abortion pills in the country. |

President Biden on Friday told reporters he's already made a decision about whether to run for reelection and will make an announcement "relatively soon." "I've already made that calculus. We'll announce it relatively soon. But the trip here just reinforced my sense of optimism about what can be done," Biden told reporters before departing Ireland for the United States. |

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday evening said he was opting out of the 2024 presidential race, putting to rest speculation that he would challenge his ex-boss, former President Trump. U.S. officials knew about additional Chinese spy balloons beyond the one that traveled across the United States in January and February, according to reports. The Washington Post reported on Friday that the intelligence community also continued to have questions about the balloon after shooting it down in the Atlantic Ocean as it had sensors and antennas that the government had not identified more than a week after. |

OPINION | With Israel on the brink of a possible multi-front war with Iran, led by its regional proxies Hezbollah, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), any perceived deterioration in relations between America and Israel will be interpreted as a weakness and an opportunity. The recent Iranian-directed missile attacks from Gaza, Syria and Lebanon, as well as terrorist acts in Tel Aviv and the Jordan River Valley, which killed a European tourist and two British women, are connected to Iran's support of these organizations. |
OPINION | Accountability — legal, moral and political — is knocking on Donald Trump's door. Whether you call it justice or karma, a lifetime of sociopathic misconduct is finally catching up with America's artful dodger. Don't be misled by the underwhelming case Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg has brought against Trump. The former president is in a world of legal hurt, and his 34-count felony indictment in New York is only the beginning of the reckoning he faces. |

A nascent but rapidly growing industry of abortion providers administers abortions only through telemedicine, with no physical clinics. A federal court ruling Wednesday that aims to ban the mailing of abortion pills could make it much harder for them to operate. |
