Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) is jeopardizing America's national security with his hold on some 300 military promotions, writes former undersecretary of Defense Dov S. Zakheim. |
In fact, Zakheim says, by undermining America's national defenses, Tuberville is "acting as an unwitting accomplice to Vladimir Putin's depredations in Europe and Xi Jinping's aggressiveness in Asia." Tuberville insists he will continue the holds until the Pentagon stops paying for its personnel to travel from bases in states that restrict abortions to states that permit them, which he says violates federal law. But, Zakheim writes, "with the holdup in promotions, the cycle of upward movement at all military levels is being broken, and those men and women who expected to maintain their seniority will find that it has disappeared." Military families are especially burdened. "Families that expected to move to new homes as part of their military member's projected permanent change of station no longer know when, or if, such a move might take place." "The likely effect of all of these developments on the personal lives of servicemen and women is obvious: they will choose to leave the military." Those politicians who have advanced their careers by vilifying their innocent fellow citizens should be ashamed of themselves. |

Despite having green-lighted the large Willow oil project in Alaska, which angered some environmentalists, Biden arguably has the climate vote locked up. He does not need to pile on, but that is what he is doing. He is truly playing with fire; voters do not blame Vladimir Putin or "greedy" oil companies when gas prices soar, they blame Joe Biden. |
