BY MYCHAEL SCHNELL AND MIKE LILLIS | The House on Friday took the remarkable step of expelling George Santos (R-N.Y.), shrinking the GOP's already thin majority and depriving Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) of a precious vote as the chamber charges toward a series of legislative landmines. And the party's math problems may be poised to get worse. |

Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) was expelled from the House on Friday after days of debate and a scandal-plagued term. Here's a look back at his time in Congress, by the numbers. |

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi took aim at ousted Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) after he exited the House chamber Friday before his expulsion vote had come to an end, calling him a "coward" for doing so. Pelosi said that while the historic 311-114-2 vote to boot Santos was "heartbreaking," it was "necessary." |

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said Friday that the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) from the House sets a bad precent, as he "hasn't been convicted of anything." Burchett, who voted against ousting the embattled New York Republican, claimed other lawmakers have done equally — if not worse — things. |

House impeachment inquiry leaders seeking testimony from Hunter Biden sought to turn his offer for public testimony on its head Friday, writing that he had affirmed his availability for the deposition they demanded in an earlier subpoena. The letter to Biden's attorneys from House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) comes after a letter from Biden's attorneys earlier in the week that says he was only willing to testify in public and not in a closed-door setting. That publicly scrambled the GOP, with some Republicans backing the idea of a public hearing. | |

GOP hopeful Nikki Haley faces a moment of truth in the next primary debate Wednesday in Alabama: Can she seize on her momentum and put in a top-level performance that will turn her into a real rival for the presidential nomination to former President Trump? The former United Nations ambassador has seen boosts from her previous debate performances, and another standout showing could propel her ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who has long been considered Trump's closest rival. |

A federal judge on Friday rejected former President Trump's argument that he is immune in his 2020 election subversion criminal case, while also denying his other constitutional defenses. "Whatever immunities a sitting President may enjoy, the United States has only one Chief Executive at a time, and that position does not confer a lifelong 'get-out-of-jail-free' pass, Former Presidents enjoy no special conditions on their federal criminal liability," U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan wrote in the 48-page ruling. |

Former President Trump's lead attorney in the Georgia election interference case made his debut Friday during a hearing where the trial judge asked probing questions about how Trump's status as a 2024 candidate could impact the case — and the trial date. Trump attorney Steve Sadow appeared alongside lawyers for other defendants during the multi-hour hearing, but his answers to Judge Scott McAfee's hypothetical queries gave a preview of the battles to come as Trump defends himself against 13 counts. |

Immigration advocates are nearing their wits' end as Senate negotiators barrel toward a deal that would permanently change immigration law in exchange for another round of Ukraine funding. The four Latino Democrats in the chamber — who are not part of the talks — have made clear that the fundamental precept being negotiated is unacceptable to them. |

OPINION | Airline pilots are responsible for the safety of millions of people every day, but recent events have highlighted the ways their own well-being is neglected. Pilots experience mental illness and substance misuse, just like the rest of us. Yet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and its policies may stand in the way of pilots getting help when they need it — ultimately putting the flying public in danger. With approximately 167,000 commercial airline pilots flying for major, small and regional airlines, an estimated 13,861 to 21,042 pilots have depression — 12.6 percent, 1.5 times higher than the general population. |
OPINION | The debate last night between California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was billed as a contrast in approaches in how red states and blue states are governed. It was meant to showcase the different underlying philosophies in state governance and make a case for each one to the American people. That would have been an interesting 90 minutes of television. Red and blue states have obviously distinct approaches to a wide variety of issues such as taxes, crime and education — all of which Fox News moderator Sean Hannity tried to cover, while the two governors talked over each other, resorted to personal attacks, pulled out their best soundbites and continually turned the conversation back to the 2024 election. |

KYIV — The Russian missing child poster went up in Crimea soon after Rostyslav Lavrov escaped last month. "HELP FIND," it read. "17 years old, born 2006 … Height 160 cm, thin build, dark hair, blue eyes." "Anyone who knows anything about the whereabouts of the teenager is asked to report this." |
