All of us at Condé Nast—and surely many of you, our Vanity Fair readers—have been preoccupied not only with the health-emergency aspect of this terrible pandemic but with the question of what each of us can do (besides, of course, the essential task of staying home). This crisis has already affected the entire fashion community—from designers and their employees to retail workers up and down the economic scale. There are those who fear they won't make payroll; others who have seen orders returned, their stores closed—who fear their businesses and livelihoods may not survive. I'm pleased to announce that on behalf of Condé Nast, Vogue is partnering with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and repurposing the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund to provide support for those in the American fashion community affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. To raise awareness of this effort, we are launching a storytelling initiative, A Common Thread, which will tell stories about how the American fashion community is coping, how businesses have been affected, and how we all plan to move forward. If you are able, I hope you will consider contributing, either online or by texting THREAD to 44-321. Of course, there is no simple fix for our industry; the challenges we face are profound. But this fund and this video series are a step in the right direction. —Anna Wintour Editor in Chief, Vogue Artistic Director, Condé Nast |
