Medicare picks Botox and Trulicity for latest round of negotiations |
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced the next 15 drugs whose prices will be negotiated as part of the third round of Medicare negotiations. |
This latest round of negotiations will mark the first time that not only Medicare Part D covered drugs will be negotiated, but also drugs payable under Medicare Part B. It will also be the first time that Medicare negotiations occur while Medicare-negotiated prices are in effect, with the prices negotiated under the first round of bargaining having started on Jan. 1, 2026. Established by the Inflation Reduction Act during the Biden administration, the drugs are selected based on how much Medicare spends on them. Companies have until Feb. 28 to agree to negotiate their drug prices. "For too long, seniors and taxpayers have paid the price for skyrocketing prescription drug costs," CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz said in a statement. "Under President Trump's leadership, CMS is taking strong action to target the most expensive drugs in Medicare, negotiate fair prices, and make sure the system works for patients—not special interests. This approach delivers real savings while strengthening accountability across the program." The next 15 drugs picked for Medicare negotiation are: - Anoro Ellipta
- Biktarvy
- Botox; Botox Cosmetic
- Cimzia
- Cosentyx
- Entyvio
- Erleada
- Kisqali
- Lenvima
- Orencia
- Rexulti
- Trulicity
- Verzenio
- Xeljanz; Xeljanz XR
- Xolair
CMS added that Tradjenta had been selected for renegotiation. The agency had selected Tradjenta as part of last year's round of negotiations as well. An explanation on why it was picked for renegotiation was not given in CMS's announcement, though the agency said selection was informed by "refinements based on public feedback." |
