President Biden unveiled his long-awaited plan to provide debt relief to millions of federal student loan borrowers on Wednesday, promising to cancel $10,000 for those who make less than $125,000 a year and $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. The president also temporarily extended the pause on loan repayments that's been in place for more than two years during the coronavirus pandemic. Biden said the freeze will run through Dec. 31 but signaled that payments would resume at the start of 2023. Biden's been under intense pressure to take action to address the growing student debt crisis — following through on a promise he made on the campaign trail in 2020.
