Former President Trump is pushing for the full, unredacted release of the affidavit that led to the search warrant for his Mar-a-Lago estate, a move that carries risks for both Trump and the Justice Department. "Pres. Trump has made his view clear that the American people should be permitted to see the unredacted affidavit related to the raid and break-in of his home," Taylor Budowich, a spokesperson for the former president, said Thursday after Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart said he may be willing to unseal portions of the document. |

| OPINION | Though the Inflation Reduction Act is enormously popular, some politicians and pundits are trying to generate hysteria about one feature: Funding for the IRS. All the false claims are distracting us from two important things: how necessary the funding increase is to reverse the longstanding underfunding of this critical government agency, and how this funding will directly help average Americans get money owed to them while cracking down on billionaire tax cheats. |
OPINION | I'm a retired cop. I know what wearing the uniform asks of those who serve. I've held the hands of overwhelmed officers, comforted bereaved spouses, and felt my own heart break. I was with the Denver Police Department for 25 years, later with the New York City Police Department as Deputy Commissioner of Training and then Deputy Commissioner of Equity and Inclusion. But you don't need all that experience to know American policing is in crisis; just read the headlines out of Uvalde, Chicago, the nation's capital, or frankly anywhere else. |
