G20 nations agree to boost renewables |
Members of the Group of 20 (G20), comprised of the world's largest economies, said they want to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030. |
The statement also called for recognizing the importance of "accelerating efforts towards phasedown of unabated coal power" — coal power whose emissions are not captured and prevented from entering the atmosphere. President Biden attended the G20 over the weekend along with other members of his administration. Major global economies such as China, Russia, India and the European Union were represented at the summit. During a press conference, Biden touted that other countries are "following the IRA playbook," referring to the Inflation Reduction Act that Democrats passed last year, which sought to boost renewables. |
