Musk talks plans for new Tesla plant in Turkey |
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the idea of creating a new factory during a Monday meeting in New York. |
The Turkish president, who is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, told Musk his country would be an attractive location for a new Tesla factory, according Turkish state media. In his pitch, Erdoğan cited the country's "technological breakthroughs" and vision in artificial intelligence (AI). Many world leaders have been courting Musk after he said he would likely pick a location for a new factory by the end of the year, my colleague Sarah Fortinsky reported. Recently, Musk said he would be building a factory in Mexico. In addition to Musk's chat with Erdoğan, the billionaire, who also owns X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, talked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussion with Netanyahu, who is kicking off a U.S. trip in California, centered on addressing antitsemitisim on X, The Associated Press reported.
