Donald Trump's campaign for a second term alongside his prosecution for seeking to block the transfer of power has raised questions over whether the former president can be barred from the ballot under a 14th Amendment provision targeting those involved in insurrections. A handful of Colorado residents have launched a suit to remove Trump from the ballot there, a challenge that hinges on a clause in the 14th Amendment that states no person shall hold elected office who "engaged in insurrection or rebellion" against the United States. |

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) on Friday took to the stage during a rally to endorse President Trump's 2024 reelection bid. "Tonight, Mr. President, my message is clear, it is an honor to have you with us here in South Dakota," Noem said during the Monumental Leaders rally in Rapid City, S.D., adding, "You've made America Great Again once, let's do it again." | |

A federal judge has rejected former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows's attempt to move his charges in the Georgia election interference case to federal court. The ruling was a broad rejection of arguments from Meadows that his case should be heard in federal court because he was acting in his capacity as chief of staff at the time. It marks a major victory for Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis (D), who has pushed back on the attempt by Meadows and multiple other defendants to move their charges out of state court. |

After months under seal, a report by the Georgia special grand jury that investigated whether any charges should be brought against former President Trump and a throng of co-defendants was released Friday. The report names 39 individuals whose actions following the 2020 presidential election were investigated over an alleged effort to subvert the state's election results and keep Trump in the White House. |

A long-awaited Georgia grand jury report released Friday provides a look at how Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) avoided being charged in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis's (D) election interference case against former President Trump and 18 other defendants. The report shows that the jury recommended taking the enormous step of bringing charges against the sitting U.S. senator, as well as two former Georgia senators, both of whom were defeated in runoff elections held the day before the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. |

A Fulton County, Ga., special grand jury recommended charges against 39 people for their involvement in former President Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia, according to its final report. Only 19 people were ultimately charged last month in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis's (D) years-long investigation. |

A U.S. appeals court on Friday ruled several government entities including the White House, the FBI, the Surgeon General and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention likely violated the First Amendment by pressuring social media companies to moderate their content on misinformation surrounding vaccines. In a decision issued Friday evening, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said government actors "likely coerced or encouraged" social media companies to moderate their content, affirming a decision by a lower court with respect to the White House, the FBI, the CDC and the Surgeon General. The three judges issuing the decision were all appointed by Republicans. |

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is running for reelection. The longtime California congresswoman, who stepped down from Democratic leadership at the end of the last Congress, announced Friday that she will run for another term. "Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote. - Nancy," Pelosi wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. |

The Biden administration's efforts to protect wildlife in the Arctic from oil and gas drilling is on a collision course with a Trump-era law requiring oil and gas leasing there. When President Biden was on the campaign trail he called for "permanently protecting" the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from drilling. And this past week, his administration canceled oil and gas rights issued there under the Trump administration. |

OPINION | At every chapter in our history, new crises create new heroes. Right now, the two who are shining the brightest are District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia and suspended State Attorney Monique Worrell in Florida. These Black women prosecutors earned election to one of the toughest jobs in our justice system only to be targeted for removal by the far right, in what is turning into an all-out nationwide war on reform-minded prosecutors. |
OPINION | Nearly three months have passed since I wrote about Sen. Tommy Tuberville's (R-Ala.) unconscionable hold on all military promotions. At the time of that writing, he had blocked 185 promotions. The number has now risen to more than 300, with no end in sight. The Republican from Alabama still argues that his hold will continue as long as the Department of Defense does not adhere to his interpretation of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funds to pay for abortions. He asserts that the amendment would also apply to the Department of Defense (DOD) funding for travel from bases in states that restrict abortions to states that permit them. He also argues that he is not harming national security in the least, since Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) could call for individual votes on each promotion should he choose to do so. |
