Voters head to polls on Super Tuesday: What to know |
Millions of people are heading to the polls in 15 states, even as President Biden and former President Trump appear to have cinched their bids for their respective party nominations. |
President Biden and former President Trump appear to be heading toward a November rematch, but millions of voters are still heading to the polls for Super Tuesday in 15 states. From protest votes to down-ballot races, there are still some touches of intrigue surrounding this Election Day. Some Democrats, largely driven by concern over Biden's handling of the ongoing Israel-Hamas, are expected to pen in "uncommitted" to send a message to Biden. On the Republican side, Trump is unlikely to lock up the nomination when Super Tuesday votes are tallied but he is inching closer and virtually has blocked his top opponent former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley from a path to the nomination. Meanwhile, California and Texas are states with high-profile down-ballot races. Democratic U.S. Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee are fighting for a spot on the California ballot to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, along with Republican Steve Garvey, a former Los Angeles Dodgers star. Under California's "jungle primary" system, all candidates, regardless of party will appear on the same ballot with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election in November. Republican races in Texas could indicate the GOP's future direction there. Both Attorney General Ken Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott have made dozens of primary endorsements – not all of them on the same page. Breaking: Though her state isn't voting today, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I) announced Tuesday she would not run for reelection in a video posted to social media. |
