Former President Trump led President Biden in a recent national New York Times/Siena College poll by 5 percentage points, prompting a campaign spokesperson for the Democrat to argue polling "consistently overestimates Donald Trump while underestimating Joe Biden." The remark is emblematic of a deeper skepticism of Trump's strength in certain Democratic circles. |

Senators on Friday passed a bill to fund a slew of government agencies for the rest of fiscal year 2024, sending the measure to President Biden's desk hours before a shutdown deadline after Congress has struggled for months to approve its full-year spending bills. The Senate voted 75-22 to pass the six-bill, $460 billion package on Friday evening, approving full-year funding for the departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Commerce and Energy, among other offices. |

President Biden's State of the Union on Thursday was fiery, political and, at times, unscripted. The president diverged from his prepared remarks several notable times with off-the-cuff comments and responses to members of Congress, possibly in an attempt to demonstrate his mental acuity and ability to think on his feet. Here are five times he went off script. |

House Democrats are raising the alarm over possible interference with their probe into the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general after he thanked Republican leaders for confirming he is not being investigated by two committees and claimed he is a whistleblower. Democrats on the House's Homeland Security Committee and Oversight and Accountability Committee focused on a series of correspondence with embattled Inspector General Joseph Cuffari. |

A new Pentagon report says there is "no evidence" the U.S. government or any private companies have reverse-engineered extraterrestrial technology, nor are there any confirmed sightings of UFOs having alien origin, contradicting a high-profile whistleblower who has made those claims without evidence. The Pentagon's newly established All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released findings Friday in the first volume of the Historical Record Report, fulfilling a requirement enacted by Congress to review the history of what are now referred to as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). |

A long-awaited Pentagon report on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) concluded Friday that there is no evidence the U.S. has reverse-engineered alien spacecraft and rebutted claims that Washington is hiding off-world technology or extraterrestrial biological material. The first volume of an investigation from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), called the Historical Record Report, debunks claims of alien or unexplainable UAP, more commonly known as UFOs. |

The Department of Education's federal investigation into the death of Oklahoma 16-year-old Nex Benedict could take months and yield potentially unsatisfying results for advocates who want to see big changes in how LGBTQ young people are treated in schools. The department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) launched the investigation last week in response to a Feb. 21 letter from the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBTQ advocacy organization, that accused Benedict's school district of failing to adequately respond to sex-based harassment that may have contributed to the student's death on Feb. 8, the day after getting into a fight in the girls' restroom. |

OPINION | NATO is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Apparently, wisdom doesn't always come with age. At a recent campaign event, former President Donald Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican nominee, made some alarming comments about NATO, suggesting that the U.S. would refuse to protect countries that don't meet the alliance's 2 percent defense spending threshold. | OPINION | President Biden delivered a powerful and passionate State of the Union address last night, recapping his accomplishments and asking Congress to work with him to strengthen our economy, protect our freedoms, preserve our democracy, advance racial justice and stand by our foreign friends. The speech, one of the best of Biden's long career, was an eloquent statement of why he deserves reelection. The president looked strong and fit as he appealed for national unity and bipartisanship, and outlined his optimistic vision for America's future. |
