One in four Americans today is a family caregiver - managing everything from meals and medical visits to bills and daily care, often while balancing jobs and raising children. These unpaid responsibilities come at a steep cost, with caregivers spending more than $7,200 annually, about 26% of their income, out of pocket.

New AARP state-by-state data highlights the scale of this strain, while bipartisan proposals like caregiver tax credits and expanded FSA/HSA flexibility gain traction. With 84% of voters supporting caregiver-focused policies, the issue is becoming a national priority.
