YouTube Won't Ban Far-Right Activist Tommy Robinson — Here's What It's Doing Instead


Back in January, YouTube demonetized far-right activist Tommy Robinson's channel. Now, it's placed new and even more aggressive restrictions on the channel — including stripping it from search results, keeping suggested videos from appearing under his content, and barring Robinson from livestreaming. YouTube will also hide view counts, likes, and comments on all of Robinson's future videos.

In what amounts to a fascinating anecdote within a larger Bloomberg exposé about YouTube's alleged negligence in dealing with toxic and conspiratorial videos, it is revealed that CEO Susan Wojcicki and top company execs once considered overhauling the platform's entire business model, whereby creators would no longer be paid based on the number of ads running on their videos.
