View Online Technology Technology The Big Story  OpenAI seeks to dismiss parts of New York Times suit  OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) tool, filed this week seeking to dismiss key elements of a lawsuit brought by the New York Times.  © AP Photo/Michael Dwyer In the filing in the Southern District of New York, OpenAI argued that ChatGPT is "is not in any way a substitute for a subscription to The New York Times" and asked a judge to toss the lawsuit, our colleague Dominick Mastrangelo reported.    In a lawsuit filed in December, the Times argued OpenAI, through its training of ChatGPT, is effectively stealing billions of dollars worth of work by its journalists and poses a threat to the newspaper.    "In the real world, people do not use ChatGPT or any other OpenAI product for that purpose," the filing said. "Nor could they.
