A woman was fatally shot by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis, sparking an uproar that almost immediately splintered into a fierce partisan fight.
First, what do the videos show?: Several angles of the incident have been captured in video shared widely online. The footage shows multiple officers surrounding the SUV driven by 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good as it remained parked in the middle of the road.
One officer tells her to "get out of the f---ing car" while approaching the vehicle. A masked officer then tries to open the driver's door as it begins to back up abruptly.
Simultaneously, another officer is seen in front of the vehicle as it begins to accelerate. That officer is seen drawing his weapon and firing at the driver, then stepping to the side and continuing to fire into the vehicle as it turns to drive away.
Three shots were fired in total by one officer. Moments later, the vehicle crashed into a nearby parked car, with the driver incapacitated.

The Washington Post reports that Good, the woman driving the car, was an award-winning poet and a mother of three. Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) says she is a U.S. citizen.
What has the reaction been?: The Department of Homeland Security quickly called the woman a domestic terrorist, accusing her of trying to run the officer over. President Trump argued the officer who shot the woman was acting in self-defense.
However, Democrats in Minnesota and nationally saw a very different incident, arguing she was killed in cold blood. Some Democrats are calling for the ICE officer who fired his weapon to be prosecuted.
A few notable reactions:
🔴 Trump pulled up the video when talking to a group of New York Times reporters: "She behaved horribly," Trump said. "And then she ran him over. She didn't try to run him over. She ran him over." Trump and the reporters then watched a slow-motion video of the incident, an angle that does not appear to show the agent getting run over. "Well," Trump concluded. "I — the way I look at it … " "It's a terrible scene. I think it's horrible to watch. No, I hate to see it." Read more
🔵 Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D): "I saw the same videos that you saw, and the notion that this is domestic terrorism on the form of the victim? Yeah, is positively ridiculous," Frey told CNN's Anderson Cooper. "I mean, the way that ICE is behaving is reckless, not just in this incident but numerous others." 📹 Watch his full reaction
🔴 Minnesota Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R): "Today's targeted assault on ICE agents in Minneapolis is the direct result of the dangerous rhetoric from sanctuary policies and the politicians who back them."
🔵 Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D): "Instead of protecting our communities, they are unleashing violence — terrorizing neighborhoods and now killing a civilian."
🔴 Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.): "It appears to, I guess, anybody who sees the video from certain angles, that the driver of the vehicle weaponized that vehicle against law enforcement officers. … This was a dangerous situation. People make snap judgments in those situations and it's a really sad outcome."
🔵 House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.): "There's no evidence that has been presented to justify the shooting of an unarmed woman in Minneapolis. We've got to make sure that the rogue ICE agent who pulled the trigger resulting in the death of an American citizen is criminally investigated to the full extent of the law." 📹 Watch Johnson's full reaction
🔴 Vice President Vance: Vance condemned public scrutiny, arguing the "gaslighting" on the ICE shooting "is off the charts." 🔎 Read Vance's full defense of the ICE officer
The shooting has sent a jolt through the U.S.: Protests have broken out across the country. Minneapolis Public Schools closed for the rest of the week "out of an abundance of caution."
The incident is further inflaming tensions over the Trump administration's immigration policies and deportation efforts.
Other reactions:
From a former ICE chief: Former ICE acting Director John Sandweg told CNN that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's claims that the woman shot was committing "domestic terrorism" is an "incredibly irresponsible statement."
From a former FBI supervisor: Former FBI supervisor Rob D'Amico told MS NOW it was likely avoidable. Read his assessment
From a witness: A witness says ICE agents wouldn't let a doctor near the woman.
