The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Monday to send Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch to the full Senate for a confirmation vote later this week.
The committee, where Republicans have a majority, voted along party lines, 11-9.
Democrats are planning to filibuster the nomination, and Republicans were unsuccessful in recruiting enough Democrats required to end the debate later this week.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, however, has declared that Gorsuch will nonetheless be confirmed, suggesting heavily that he plans to use the "nuclear option" to change Senate rules and lower the threshold to overcome a filibuster.
A vote on the nuclear option, which needs a simple majority, is expected Thursday, and a final confirmation vote for Gorsuch is expected on Friday.
