Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) says he is exchanging materials with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) to help her better understand a far-reaching tax reform and climate bill he negotiated with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and says he is open to her suggestions as Democrats seek the 50 votes needed to get the bill to the floor after months of negotiations. Manchin says he spoke to Sinema after lunch Tuesday. Manchin was tight-lipped about the details of the conversation but stressed that he's open to changes to get the deal across the finish line. The current proposal would raise $739 billion in new revenue over the next decade and reduce the deficit by more than $300 billion. Sinema hasn't publicly commented on the proposal. "We had a nice time. We had a nice time," Manchin said Tuesday when reporters pressed him for details of his chat with Sinema while she sat at the Senate dais. Manchin said they are in regular contact, adding she's "extremely bright, she works hard, she makes good decisions based on facts. I'm reliant on that." Read more. Meanwhile, Schumer (D-N.Y.) has said he's also been "in touch" with Sinema on the deal.
