With President Biden's approval ratings stuck in the doldrums, Democrats are looking for a viable alternative for 2024. But with few names that stand out, and with the prospect of another Trump presidential run, Democrats need to try something different.
MICHAEL STARR HOPKINS thinks Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is that something. She's "less of a personality and more of a movement," writes Hopkins. "She isn't beholden to corporations, is a prodigious small-dollar fundraiser and could out-Trump Trump like no other politician has been able to."
And in case you're wondering, on Election Day 2024, AOC will have just turned 35 years old, the minimum age to be president.
Hopkins, a Democratic political strategist, says the Queens congresswoman "wields a superpower that is rarely found in Washington: She isn't afraid to lose."
He pays AOC a huge compliment by comparing her favorably to the last Democrat who breathed fresh life into the Democratic Party and pledged to put the country on a new course. Read Hopkins's op-ed here.
