Here's what to know for canceled flights
|
When it comes to dealing with airlines this holiday season, travelers have a number of rights should their Thanksgiving flights get delayed or canceled. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a PSA released Tuesday that the nation's 10 largest airlines have pledged to "cover expenses for things like rebooking, meals and more" for passengers who have canceled flights that are the airlines' responsibility. Passengers are also entitled to a full cash refund if a flight is canceled, Buttigieg noted, urging travelers to visit Flightrights.gov for more information. Between the lines: - Airlines are not required to offer compensation for issues outside their control, such as bad weather.
- More air traffic controllers have been hired since air travel disruptions in 2022, though weather and airline issues were primary factors then.
- TSA expects record air travel this week, while storm systems are expected to impact parts of the nation starting Tuesday.

Updates on Israel-Hamas hostage negotiations
|
U.S. officials say Israel and Hamas are getting closer to a deal on the release of hostages Hamas took in its Oct. 7 attack, which could also include an agreement to pause fighting and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. - "We are now very close," President Biden said Tuesday. "We could bring some of these hostages home very soon, but I don't want to get into the details of things, because nothing is done until it's done."
- And from national security spokesperson John Kirby: "We are closer than we've been. We believe we're getting closer."
The comments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convening his war Cabinet and security Cabinet, with Kirby noting any deal would need to be approved by the war Cabinet and Hamas. |
