Allies of President Biden are stepping up calls for Democrats to rally around the president, following negative commentary and splits from inside the party over whether he should forgo reelection. Former President Obama's senior adviser David Axelrod has been the most notable Democrat to cause a ruckus when he suggested earlier this month that Biden step aside and further advised that the president has a "50-50 shot" of winning in 2024. |

President Biden's reelection will largely come down to how he performs in six key battleground states in 2024 as he prepares for a rematch against former President Trump. Despite Biden's considerable pickups in 2020, some Democrats are sounding the alarm about his chances next year and are careful not to be overly optimistic. |

Former President Trump is facing 91 felony counts in four criminal cases. He was impeached twice and left office under ignominious circumstances after his supporters violently stormed the Capitol, egged on by his claims of a stolen election. Many of his former top advisers have turned into ardent critics. And yet, several polls released in the past few weeks, including one on Sunday by NBC News, show him leading President Biden in battleground states and nationally in a hypothetical rematch in 2024. |

House conservatives are ramping up calls for the party to pass the remaining annual government funding bills as Republicans look to strengthen their hand ahead of spending talks with the Democratic-led Senate. The House has passed seven of the dozen full-year funding bills, clearing partisan fiscal 2024 spending plans for the Pentagon, departments of Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, State, and a host of other agencies in recent months. |

New Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has spent the last couple years on the House Armed Services Committee, experience that will influence his handling of the upcoming fight with the Senate over the annual defense spending bill. While Johnson's unique perspective may help in moving forward the immense, $886 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the must-pass legislation faces a series of hurdles and a wide chasm with the Senate |

President Biden called into the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, calling on Americans to "come together" and put unity above politics over the holiday weekend — and beyond. "On this Thanksgiving, Al, we have to come together," the president told NBC's Al Roker. "We can have different political views, but we have one view. The one view is that we're the finest, greatest nation in the world. We should focus on that." |

Former President Trump wished his supporters a happy Thanksgiving in a Truth Social postearly Thursday while slamming New York's attorney general, the judge overseeing his civil fraud case, President Biden and the "Radical Left Lunatics." He also targeted Biden, accusing him of weaponizing the "Department of Injustice" against his predecessor in the Oval Office, as well as "all of the other Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS, who are seriously looking to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY." |

A four-day cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war began Friday morning in Gaza as part of an agreement that Qatar helped broker. The deal also includes the release of dozens of hostages held by militants and Palestinians imprisoned by Israel, which was to begin later Friday.

Former U.S. national security adviser John Bolton reiterated his belief Thursday that the short-term truce between Hamas and Israel is a "bad deal." "Hamas is playing a game of psychological warfare against the people of Israel, and the people of the United States as well," Bolton argued in an interview with CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Thanksgiving Day, just hours before the temporary cease-fire is set to being. |

OPINION | Major advertisers have been fleeing X, the site formerly known as Twitter, after a series of antisemitic posts from the platform's billionaire owner, Elon Musk. In response to a user stating that Jews "have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them," Musk responded that the user had "said the actual truth." That comment hardly stands alone. The Jewish outlet the Forward is keeping a running list of Musk's troubling posts. |

OPINION | As leading experts on climate change, we often get asked if there's hope for the planet — but it may surprise people that we find more cause for optimism than despair. We see an energy transition underway that isn't getting nearly enough attention, and rising investments in adaptation that can make us more resilient to extreme weather. Even as the international community remains far from meeting its climate goals, recent progress shows that widespread change is possible and paves the way for broader action. |
