A dizzying week in Washington and Austin has the GOP rallying around Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) as he pledges not to back down in his escalating standoff with the Biden administration over border enforcement, while former President Trump has been working to tank a bipartisan border deal. Abbott and Trump are marshaling Republican broadsides against President Biden on his most vulnerable issue, but while the Texas governor's flirting with constitutional crisis is drawing near-unanimous GOP cheers, Trump's blunt attempt to derail funding talks threatens to divide the party. |

Bernie Moreno, a staunch Trump ally, is emerging as the leading candidate for the Republican nomination to face Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) in what will be one of the most closely-watched Senate races this year. Moreno started off the primary with low name recognition and trailed his other GOP rivals in most early polls. But a coveted endorsement from the former president, as well as from other leading Republican figures, has elevated him over his chief rivals, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and state Sen. Matt Dolan. |

Higher education unions have been on the rise in recent years, and experts say this labor movement is different from other sectors: more focused on equity issues, racial justice and academic freedom at a time when many feel schools are under attack. Financial matters, however, are still a primary concern. The most recent labor win came from the California Faculty Association (CFA) on Monday after California State University (CSU) reached a deal with the union less than 24 hours after it declared a strike, securing pay increases and better maternity leave for employees. |

Former President Trump can delay paying E. Jean Carroll the $83.3 million a jury decided he owes her until after he exhausts all appeal options he has vowed to seek, The New York Times reports. Rudy Giuliani defended former President Trump after a jury ordered him to pay $83.3 million for defaming columnist E. Jean Carroll and called the presiding judge, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, a "disgrace." "Well, the judge is a disgrace to the greatest court in America. It's called the mother court, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York," Giuliani said on Newsmax on Friday after the ruling, highlighted by Mediaite. "It's had some of the greatest judges in American history. This judge is a pure disgrace." |
