To Panic, or Not to Panic: The 2024 Election Question Good morning from the Hive newsroom. The Iowa caucuses are just days away, which means there's no escaping the reality that it is indeed a presidential election year. For Inside the Hive, host Brian Stelter talked with Vanity Fair's Michael Calderone and Claire Howorth about the animating issues of 2024, including how to cover Donald Trump and his authoritarian ideology, and the forceful objectivity that has tripped up some news organizations.
Elsewhere, Eric Lutz writes about rising pressure from within the Biden campaign for the president to call for a ceasefire as the crisis in Gaza worsens. "It is not enough to merely be the alternative to Donald Trump," more than a dozen campaign staffers wrote in an open letter to the president. "This administration's profound sense of empathy is one of the reasons we felt inspired to join your reelection campaign," the staffers added. "Now, we have faith that you will listen to the two-thirds of the country and three-quarters of our fellow Democrats who support a ceasefire."
Plus, Bess Levin has the latest on GOP presidential hopeful Chris Christie attempting to apologize for supporting Trump in 2016. |
