Trump may take Iran's oil, hit its infrastructure |
Over the weekend and Monday, President Trump made a series of statements indicating that he could take Iran's oil and target its infrastructure. |
Trump told the Financial Times on Sunday that his "preference would be to take the oil" in Iran and compared the situation to his takeover of Venezuela's oil earlier this year. "Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don't. We have a lot of options," he said, referring to an Iranian oil export hub. "It would also mean we had to be there [in Kharg Island] for a while."
Meanwhile, on Monday, Trump threatened civilian infrastructure in Iran including power plants and desalination plants.
"Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately 'Open for Business,' we will conclude our lovely 'stay' in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet 'touched,'" he wrote in a Truth Social Post.
