President Trump is planning to sign an executive order today relating to social media, according to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnanyhttps://bit.ly/2XGSrSV

Timing: This announcement comes after Twitter fact-checked President Trump’s tweets this week about mail-in ballots.

Twitter’s reasoning for fact-checking the president: "These Tweets contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots," a Twitter spokesperson told The Hill.

What do we know about the executive order?: McEnany did not offer any details.

Not happening this summer:

Via The Washington Post’s Jeff Stein and Josh Dawsey, “White House officials have decided not to release updated economic projections this summer, opting against publishing forecasts that would almost certainly codify an administration assessment that the coronavirus pandemic has led to a severe economic downturn, according to three people with knowledge of the decision.” https://wapo.st/2XDVI5d

What usually happens in the summer: “The White House is supposed to unveil a federal budget proposal every February and then typically provides a ‘mid-session review’ in July or August with updated projections on economic trends such as unemployment, inflation and economic growth.”

Two White House officials on why projections won’t be released: “The novel coronavirus is causing extreme volatility in the U.S. economy, making it difficult to model economic trends.”

Google is trying to reign in the scams:

Via The Hill’s Maggie Miller, As attempted cyber and phishing scams are on the rise in the coronavirus pandemic, Google is rolling out a new program to combat the scams. https://bit.ly/3gw3RS4

The program: “The new ‘Scam Spotter’ program, co-created with the Cybercrime Support Network, recommends a three-step process for individuals to consider before handing over personal information through a phone call or email. The program also tests the ability of an individual to spot a scam, gives examples of common ones such as those pretending to be from a government agency or bank and provides resources to report any scams to the Federal Trade Commission.”

TALK OF THE MORNING

Deadly protests in Minneapolis last night:

“For the second straight night, largely peaceful protests over the death of a man in Minneapolis police custody turned violent Wednesday. A man was shot to death. The mayor's office asked that the National Guard be called in. And numerous fires were set, punctuating the gravity of the situation against the overnight darkness.” https://cbsn.ws/3c8jr2z

What sparked the protests: “The protests followed the death Monday night of George Floyd. A police officer was seen in bystander video pressing his knee against Floyd's neck for several minutes. Floyd was heard pleading with the officer, telling him he couldn't breathe. He later died at a hospital.”

REACTION FROM THE DOJ:

The Department of Justice said it will make the investigation into George Floyd’s death a “top priority.” https://reut.rs/2Ad0M8O

ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Elizabeth Warren as Joe Biden’s VP comes with one big problem:

Via The Hill’s Alexander Bolton, “Buzz is growing about Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s interest in joining former Vice President Joe Biden atop the Democratic presidential ticket, but one of the biggest obstacles she faces is the possibility that her Senate seat could wind up getting filled by a Republican.” https://bit.ly/2X7PTOk

The upside of choosing Warren: “Picking Warren could give Biden a boost in the polls. A Morning Consult/Politico survey released Wednesday found that 26 percent of registered voters said they would be more likely to vote for Biden if he chose Warren, putting her ahead of the other eight women he is said to be considering. Her greatest impact, according to the survey, would be among voters under the age of 45, as well as black and Hispanic voters — three blocs Democrats see as key to winning the White House and picking up Senate seats.”

The downside of choosing Warren: “Picking Warren would likely cost Democrats one of those Senate seats, at least temporarily, if Biden were to defeat President Trump. Warren represents a state with a Republican governor, Charlie Baker, who has the power to pick anyone he wants to fill her seat, should it become vacant, until a special election sometime in 2021.”

Keep in mind: Warren is scheduled to hold an online fundraiser for Biden on June 15.
