Oh, reaaaaally? You didn’t think calling the president ‘morbidly obese’ would bother him?: |
© Getty Images House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended calling President Trump “morbidly obese” when expressing her worry about him taking a controversial, unproven coronavirus treatment, saying she didn’t think Trump would be “so sensitive” about his appearance. Pelosi said during an interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace: "I didn't know that he would be so sensitive. He's always talking about other people's ... weight, their pounds.” Pelosi also said: "I think he should recognize that his words weigh a ton. Instead of telling people to put Lysol into their lungs or taking a medication that has not been approved except under certain circumstances, he should be saying what your previous guest mentioned, things that would help people.” © Giphy |

HOW TRUMP RESPONDED TO PELOSI CALLING HIM ‘MORBIDLY OBESE’: |
When President Trump was first asked to respond he said, “I don’t respond to her. I think she’s a waste of time.” But about five minutes later, in response to an unrelated question, Trump said: “Pelosi is a sick woman. She's got a lot of problems, a lot of mental problems.” https://bit.ly/2zhwC3T |
|
WHAT STARTED THIS SQUABBLE: |
Trump started taking the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine that he has been touting as a coronavirus treatment, despite concerns over the unproven treatment. https://bit.ly/3gad9mD Pelosi was then asked about Trump’s decision to take the drug: "I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group, morbidly obese, they say," Pelosi said. "So, I think that it's not a good idea." https://bit.ly/3dY2CsD |
|
KEEP IN MIND: |
“President Trump’s declaration that he’s taking hydroxychloroquine to guard against the coronavirus has drawn a swift backlash from health experts and stirred debate about how best to keep the president healthy amid the pandemic.” https://bit.ly/3e3iPg3 |

I’ll take away your funding, Michigan and Nevada! I’ll do it!: |
President Trump threatened to withhold funding to Michigan and Nevada this morning over mail-in voting.https://bit.ly/2zQzjJU Trump’s reasoning: Trump suggested it would encourage voter fraud. |
|
IN MICHIGAN: |
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) announced that all registered voters in the state would receive an absentee ballot. Trump tweeted: “Breaking: Michigan sends absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election. This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!” https://bit.ly/2ygvZHk ^ Jocelyn Benson responded: “Hi! 🏼 I also have a name, it’s Jocelyn Benson. And we sent applications, not ballots. Just like my GOP colleagues in Iowa, Georgia, Nebraska and West Virginia.” https://bit.ly/2WQhljL |
|
IN NEVADA: |
The state is holding a mail-in primary election. Trump tweeted about Nevada: “State of Nevada ‘thinks’ that they can send out illegal vote by mail ballots, creating a great Voter Fraud scenario for the State and the U.S. They can’t! If they do, ‘I think’ I can hold up funds to the State. Sorry, but you must not cheat in elections. @RussVought45 @USTreasury” https://bit.ly/2LKkNGa |

Congratulations, Tiffany Trump!: |
President Trump congratulated his daughter this morning for graduating from Georgetown Law. He tweeted: “Congratulations to my daughter, Tiffany, on graduating from Georgetown Law. Great student, great school. Just what I need is a lawyer in the family. Proud of you Tiff!” https://bit.ly/2yoifKU |

Democrats to Biden: ‘Aiiiight, so we have thoughts’: |
Via The Hill’s Scott Wong, “Once bitterly divided over the crowded, raucous 2020 presidential primary, progressives and centrists, insurgents and establishment Democrats are now unified behind Biden, and they’re cheering his pledge to pick a woman as his running mate this summer.” https://bit.ly/36goxZh Yeaaaah, but…: “They just can’t agree on who that woman should be.” |
|
SOME EXAMPLES: |
“Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.), co-chairwoman of the Women’s Caucus, is pushing her home-state colleague, Rep. Val Demings, for vice president.” “Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) wants ... Biden to select Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, who Clay believes would help Democrats win the all-important swing state — and the White House.” “Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.), a Hispanic Caucus member, said it’s critical that Democrats have a strong woman of color on the ticket, someone like Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) or Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).” Other examples and how this could play out: https://bit.ly/36goxZh |
