President Trump announced yesterday that he has been taking hydroxychloroquine, the antimalarial drug that Trump has controversially touted as a potential treatment for the coronavirus, despite limited evidence. https://bit.ly/3gad9mD

Trump asked the White House doctor for it: "I asked him what do you think? He said, 'Well if you’d like it.' I said, 'Yeah, I’d like it. I’d like to take it.'"

How long he has been taking it: About a week and a half

How it’s going so far for him: "So far, I seem to be OK.”

Why the drug can be dangerous: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that hydroxychloroquine can cause severe heart problems and should not be taken outside of a hospital or clinical trial.

REACTION FROM SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI — OH, THIS SHOULD GO OVER SWIMMINGLY:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said it’s “not a good idea” for the president, whom she called “morbidly obese” to take the unapproved drug. https://bit.ly/3dY2CsD

Pelosi said on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360": "I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group, morbidly obese, they say. So, I think that it's not a good idea."

WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY KAYLEIGH MCENANY URGED AMERICANS TO CONSULT THEIR DOCTORS:

McEnany said on “Fox & Friends”: "Any use of hydroxychloroquine has to be in consultation with your doctor. You have to have a prescription. That’s the way it must be done.” https://bit.ly/2LF4kmr

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) blasted Mnuchin: “How many workers should give their lives to increase the [gross domestic product], or the Dow Jones by 1000 points,” Brown asked.

^ Mnuchin’s response: “No workers should give their lives to do that, Mr. Senator, and I think your characterization is unfair.” Mnuchin also said the Trump administration has “provided enormous amounts of equipment.” Watch the back and forthhttps://bit.ly/36fqHbN

ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

That’s sure not a ‘hell no, I don’t want to be Biden’s VP’:

NBC’s Craig Melvin asked Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) this morning whether she is being vetted as a possible running mate to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Bidenhttps://on.today.com/2TjpF9x

In Whitmer’s words: “You know what, I've had a conversation with some folks,” but went on to describe her priority of dealing with her state’s coronavirus outbreak.

And when she was asked about this conversation, Whitmer responded: “it was just an opening conversation and it's not something that I would call a professional, you know, formalized vetting.”
