A prominent Democrat serving on the House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol promised that the select committee's first prime-time hearing this week will show how much then-President Trump was involved in the events leading up to the riot.
"We're going to see how much Trump was involved. Trump ran this show. He ran it from the time he lost the election in November and he did it with his son, or sons, and all of his henchmen up there," Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) said during an interview Tuesday with CNN.
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack has spent nearly a year digging into the circumstances that led to the temporary disruption of the certification of President Biden's win over Trump in the 2020 race.
Members and then-Vice President Pence, who was presiding over the vote certification, had to be whisked to safe rooms as thousands of Trump supporters flooded the building.
The televised hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, has promised to feature previously unseen material documenting the riot, in addition to witness testimony.
The panel has conducted more than 1,000 interviews and obtained more than 125,000 documents to back up its probe.
