The U.S. economy added an astounding 353,000 jobs in January, and the unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent. (The Hill) Because those numbers don't mean much without context: Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had predicted a gain of roughly 185,000 jobs and a 3.8 percent unemployment rate. 💡 What this means for the economy: Inflation and high prices are still a top concern for voters, but this is evidence of a strong economy. Recent polling shows that consumer confidence is at a two-year high. 💡 Why this matters politically: As the incumbent in the 2024 presidential race, President Biden must defend the economy, so this certainly helps him make his economic pitch.
