Trump OKs fishing at marine monument |
President Trump is once again opening up a marine national monument in the Atlantic Ocean to commercial fishing. |
He issued a proclamation last week allowing for commercial fishing in the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. This monument consists of a nearly 5,000 square mile area southeast of Cape Cod, Mass. Species of dolphin, whale, turtle, coral, fish and bird can be found there. "A prohibition on commercial fishing is not, at this time, necessary for the proper care and management of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument," Trump wrote in his proclamation. Former President Obama established the monument to protect undersea canyons and mountains that host ecosystems that could face climate change impacts. During his first time in office, Trump opened it up to commercial fishing, but former President Biden banned commercial fishing there. Read more at TheHill.com. |
