Democratic Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.) said Sunday that his party “desperately needs new leadership,” with the midterms less than six months away.
“We need to focus on the people, and the Democratic Party desperately needs new leadership, and that’s what’s exciting me about this cycle. It’s not only new leaders emerging, but a new vision for our party,” Booker told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on Sunday would not commit to backing Trump-endorsed Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) if he wins the upcoming Texas Republican Senate runoff election to face Democrat James Talarico in November.

|
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lee Zeldin said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that the Trump administration is providing “flexibility” to businesses by loosening restrictions on the use of super-polluting greenhouse gases in commercial refrigeration.
Under the new EPA rule unveiled on Wednesday, supermarkets can use hydrofluorocarbons that are up to 1,400 times as potent as carbon dioxide until 2032. The rule also eased restrictions on cold storage warehouses, semiconductor manufacturing and refrigerated transportation.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on Sunday said his relationship with President Trump is different from the “Cassidy and Massie situation,” referring to Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who both lost Republican primaries to Trump-endorsed candidates.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis (N.C.) on Sunday slammed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, comparing him unfavorably to former Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem, who was dismissed earlier this year by President Trump.
Tillis, who is retiring at the end of this Congress, criticized Hegseth’s handling of the Iran war, noting the reported terms of a tentative deal that the Trump administration is hashing out with officials in Tehran would allow nuclear material to remain in that country.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) on Sunday said Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin should have released the party’s long-withheld autopsy report of the party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential election sooner.
Van Hollen told “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream that the report was “incredibly shoddy and incomplete, I can understand why Ken Martin did not want to release it originally, but, of course, that became an issue in itself.”

Donalds defends anti-weaponization fund

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) on Sunday defended the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) controversial new “anti-weaponization fund” saying, “everybody’s losing their minds.”
“This is not new. It happened to — the — under the Obama administration after the [Internal Revenue Service (IRS)] had been sued multiple times, and they settled with groups. This has occurred before. The acting attorney general is telling everybody it is not partisan,” Donalds told host Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday.”
