OPINION | The U.S. national debt recently passed $40 trillion, a number so large that the human brain simply refuses to process it. When President Trump took the oath of office for his second term in January 2025, the balance sheet read $36.2 trillion. Blowing through another nearly $4 trillion in that period of time requires a truly dedicated effort to maxing out the country’s credit cards.

OPINION | The largest armed presence inside Venezuela today isn’t Venezuelan at all — it’s Colombia’s ELN and FARC militia dissidents, who control vast stretches of the border region in a brutal war for territory.
To pay for guns and grenades, these Colombian terrorist organizations are plundering Venezuela’s critical minerals and selling them to Chinese buyers for big profits. More than 56,000 people have been displaced, fleeing the bloodshed.

SUNDRE, Alberta—This town nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains is known for its annual pro rodeo in June, which includes a parade of cowboys and cowgirls on horseback, school marching bands and colorful floats celebrating the heritage of rural Alberta.
This year, a feud erupted over a proposed parade float festooned with Alberta provincial flags. Volunteer parade organizers rejected the idea as too political amid campaigning around a referendum on Alberta staying in Canada or moving toward independence—and were then met with an onslaught of harassment and online abuse from supporters of the float.
