After seeing the Tartan Army taking over Boston, I’ve never wanted to be a part of something this much. McConnell hospitalized  Insane weekend of sports’ viral moments  Trump plans July 4 DC rally  ✌️ THE IRAN DEAL  The Iran deal doesn’t address the elephant in the room:  AP/Evan Vucci The U.S. has reached a preliminary deal with Iran that could end the monthslong war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.   This is a big step — The Economist noted that Trump has claimed he was close to securing a peace deal with Iran roughly 40 times (!) — but it doesn’t solve the root issue that started this war in the first place: Iran’s nuclear program. And it also leaves Iran’s leadership team in place.   Negotiations over nuclear power are now expected to happen over the next 60 days, kicking off Friday in Switzerland. This should be the trickiest part of the peace puzzle, leaving Iran’s future in limbo.  Why this deal works: Both the U.S. and Iran believe they’ve won. But because the text of the final deal has not been released, it’s hard to know what was promised by both sides. Read more from The New York Times: ‘On the Nuclear Issue, Each Side Finds a Way to Claim Victory’  For what it’s worth, Vice President Vance says the text of the deal would be released this week.  Regardless, this deal is a deal for energy prices: The Strait of Hormuz controls the flow of roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply. Iran has essentially closed the strait, sending energy prices surging. Trump told The New York Times on phone call the strait would be “permanently toll-free.”   Stocks soared and oil prices fell this morning.  Meanwhile, the Middle East wants to prevent this from happening again: Countries in the Middle East are looking for workarounds to make the Strait of Hormuz less powerful. Read more: ‘Strait of Hormuz oil supply crunch has countries looking for workarounds’  TIDBIT:   Trump told Axios on Sunday that he was “pissed off” at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for striking Lebanon while the U.S. was finalizing negotiations with Iran over the weekend.  “Why did Bibi have to do a f—ing attack?” Trump told Axios on the phone interview. “I was so pissed off. I let him know. He has no f—ing judgment. He settled for reopening Hormuz.  The New York Times: Shipping Firms, Awaiting Details, Are Cautious of U.S.-Iran Deal  🧀 IN FRANCE He’s feeling so fly like a [G7]:  After announcing the preliminary Iran deal and attending a UFC fight on the White House lawn for his birthday, President Trump traveled to France overnight for the Group of Seven (G7) summit.   Trump will attend a working dinner shortly with G7 leaders. And then tomorrow, the real action begins. Trump will meet with the emir of Qatar and the president of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, as well as attending meetings with world leaders.  Who Trump will *not* be meeting with: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 👀  💬 Follow today’s live blog  🏥 ON CAPITOL HILL Feel better, senator:  84-year-old retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was hospitalized on Sunday, according to an aide.  Why?: His spokesperson did not say but noted he is “receiving excellent care.”  Keep in mind: McConnell is the third-oldest member of the Senate. He’s had multiple health issues in recent years, including a hospital stay in February, fall in October, another fall in 2025 and two freezing episodes in 2023.  FISA has expired and the pressure is high, but Trump is not easing off his wish list:  President Trump is urging lawmakers to extend the U.S.’s warrantless spy powers after they expired on Friday night.   But despite the urgency, the president is still pressing for any extension of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to include his voting regulations bill.  “A few Dumocrats are against FISA, with or without Bill Pulte going to DNI, as Acting. What kind of a deal is that. Besides, I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it. Join the waitlist ⚽ THE SPORTS SECTION  What an incredible weekend of sports and viral content:  This was a wild weekend in sports. The New York Knicks won the 2026 NBA championship for the first time in 53 years. The Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup on Sunday night. The World Cup took over American cities. Oh, and Trump’s birthday UFC fight on the White House lawn happened despite the extreme heat and thunderstorms on the radar.  Here are some of my favorite highlights:  The Tartan Army took over Fenway Park: Scottish soccer fans have taken over Boston, including attending a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway. The videos are hilarious. 🎥 Celebrations;🎥 Singing in the stands; 🎥 Marching to Fenway; 🎥 Singing ‘I will walk 500 miles’; 🎥 Hahahaha  Knicks fans absolutely lost it: The celebrations looked *so* fun. 🎥 Singing ‘Empire State of Mind in the streets; 🎥 The sound of Manhattan the moment they won;🎥 Teammate trio that won an NCAA title and NBA title together; 🎥 Outdoor watch party; 🎥 Prince Harry was there  The UFC fight was quite the spectacle: I still can’t believe this happened outside the White House. 🎥 Rare Thunderbird-Blue Angels formation flyover; 🎥 Wild stormy skies over the National Mall on Saturday; 🎥 Mark Zuckerberg and David Ellison in the front row; 🎥 What a photo; Trump’s arrival   🎥 Japanese fans even cleaned the stadium after the World Cup game 🫶  A hurricane in North Carolina: This is the Hurricanes’ first Stanley Cup in 20 years. 🎥 Downtown Raleigh the moment the Canes won; 🎥 Players storming the ice at the buzzer; 🎥 Making confetti ‘snow angels’ on the ice  📰 OTHER NEWS: The Supreme Court says ‘no’ to a few cases:  The Supreme Court declined this morning to hear a case from former Donald Trump campaign adviser Carter Page to continue his lawsuit against former FBI Director James Comey and seven other FBI officials. Read more  The court also declined to take up the oldest active federal judge’s bid to end her suspension. Her colleagues issued the 98-year-old judge’s suspension after she refused their demands for mental fitness testing.
